About Us
25 years ago Martin and I met in a rural marina off the coast of Cuba. He was a single handed sailor attempting a circumnavigation from South Africa. I was on a Canadian passport helping some friends sail their boat from Mexico.
We sailed away together on Martin’s 10m/ 33ft mono hull.
We cruised the Caribbean and South Pacific for several years and ended up in New Zealand. Our son Justin was born in New Zealand on New Years Day in 1999. Our claim to fame was a newspaper article announcing the first babies born in the world (International Dateline).
“Just in” Time for 1999. We made the decision to sell S/V Topaz and settle down to raise our son and save for a bigger boat.
Indeed we would require a bigger boat. Our daughter Adrien was born in 2001.
In 2008 we bought S/V Shenemere a 15m/ 51ft Beneateu. We carried on working and preparing Shenemere for a 2nd attempt at a circumnavigation.
This blog is a chronological history of our sailing trip 2018 from Miami, Florida through the Caribbean, Panama Canal and South Pacific and onward to South Africa eventually (still in New Zealand at present).
No real time frame in place and our route changes with the wind.
This blog is to help us remember the amazing people and places we have met and visited and share our adventure. We hope you enjoy the pictures, stories and videos.
